New ID Studios Reviews & Reputation Management

New ID Studios are a company with a problem.

Way back in 2009 I wrote a post about their business practices – which essentially amount to bullying/pressurising people into paying around £1,400 a set of photos. That post continues to attract traffic and comments from disgruntled customers today.

There have also been posts like this from the Mirror – Maddened by New ID Studios

It’s not too much of a stretch to imagine that New ID might seek to repair their damaged reputation… Sadly their quest doesn’t seem to be so much about making amends with those customers they’ve upset, or changing their business practices.

*sigh*

I’ve been receiving fake comments on my post.

How do I know they’re fake? They’re pretty easy to recognise. All the fake comments come from either a hushmail or gmx email account which is kind of unusual. Then I noticed that some of the comments originated from the same IP address.

Another *sigh*

I decided to check out some of the review sites too.

First up – their Qype reviews all look fabulously positive… At first glance – then I saw this (click to enlarge):

Yep – that’s the same review from the same reviewer for two different New ID locations… Spooky, huh? What are the chances?

With the exception of the user above, out of the remaining 37 reviews of the Manchester New ID on Qype – only one reviewer has reviewed more than one company. Everyone else just reviewed New ID Manchester.

It’s a similar story on Review Centre – lots of reviews from people who have only written one review. Wahanda? Same again.

I wonder what that could mean?

Should anyone from New ID Studios happen upon this post, I’m truly delighted that you seem to have an issue with your reputation online. You deserve it.

The Problem with Women

Thanks to this TED talk I’ve been thinking a lot about why women seem to under-achieve in the workplace. Which is strange when you consider that females typically do better academically (or at least at GCSE level -males are now apparently closing the gender gap for A levels).

So why is this?

Sheryl thinks it’s because:

  1. Women under-estimate their own abilities
  2. Women typically don’t negotiate well for themselves in the workplace
  3. Women attribute their success to other external factors

Worse still – in our society success and like-ability are apparently positively correlated for men and negatively correlated for women. Essentially if women want to be liked, they’d better not be too successful.

Embarrassingly this is equally perpetuated by both males and females.

I’ve been thinking about what I can do differently. You see, I’m not sure I believe that ‘society’ (or men) need to do something to reverse this under-achieving trend. I really think it’s up to us ladies to step it up some.

A little more self-belief, a little less self-deprecation is easy to say, but hard to do. But nonetheless I’m going to try.

I’m also going to do my best to make sure that I’m not one of those people who are busily hating on successful women.

I’d really like it if you’d join me.

All Marketers Are Liars

I work in marketing.

I’ve been know to be frugal with the truth. 

But, just for the record, I’d really rather not be. It’s less about morality (although of course I like to think I have a strong moral compass), and more about what actually works.

Polishing turds is a pointless exercise. They really don’t shine up that well… and even if they do – what do you have? A shiny turd. Excellent. A triumph of style over substance. Nothing more than spin.

And, spin – well it makes customers dizzy.

You might bamboozle them for a short while, but once they’ve regained their 20:20 vision, they’ll realise. They’ll feel short-changed at best, and at worst will be busily casting the cruciatus curse in your general direction.

They’re not going to say nice things about you.

They’re not going to recommend a friend.

There will be great vengeance and furious anger spewing forth from your customers mouths, screaming from their facebook statuses, and flooding twitter.

Maybe you’ll wonder why. Maybe you’ll blame the marketers.

But, perhaps, dear hearts – you really ought to reassess what it is you’re selling.

So rather than having your marketers spending their days polishing turds and fighting fires, create something truly brilliant. A service that delivers. A product which works. Customers who evangelise rather than curse you.
