So I keep having this recurring dream.
Ha ha – that’s the stupidest sentence I have EVER written. Durr it’s a recurring dream – ergo I keep having it. However I’m going to leave that opener there as proof of the degree to which the dream troubles me… It’s troubling me so much I’ve lost the ability to write coherent sentences (although regular readers might argue that coherent sentences have never been a strong point of mine).
Anyway, back to the point: My recurring dream.
It starts out as a normal morning. I wake up, stumble to the bathroom and look in the mirror. My teeth feel kind of funny. When I run my tongue over them… they move. They sort of flap about uselessly.
They don’t actually fall out… but they move and not so much wobble as flap. Remember when you were a kid and lost your milk teeth? Well remember how they would wobble for a while, and eventually how they would get soooooo wobbly, that they’re just barely hanging on in there? Well that’s ALL my teeth… oh my God I feel sick thinking about it.
I then wake up for real, and have to rush to the bathroom to make sure that my teeth are ok. Of course, they are; I calm down a bit, curse the dream, then try to go back to sleep.
Now there are people out there who believe that dreams actually mean something. Honestly, I’m not 100% sure whether I believe that or not. However, as this dream’s been troubling me to such an extent, I thought I’d trawl through a few sites to see what the dream might mean:
Now in my dream, my teeth don’t actually fall out – but it’s fair to say they are on the verge of doing so. However, having wasted my life googling ‘wobbly teeth dream’, and other such bizarre phrases – and getting nowhere fast, I’ve decided to go with the far more common – teeth falling out dream – here is what it might mean:
According to www.analysedreams.co.uk
“When you dream your teeth are falling out, it can mean that you have been talking too much lately. Maybe you have been gossiping more than usual, maybe you have said the wrong thing to someone, or maybe you have been speaking without thinking first. This dream can tell you that you have been being too blunt with your speech.”
“Sometimes when we dream of our teeth falling out, we are actually concerned about our physical appearance. Think of how important your smile is to your looks. If you dream your teeth are falling out, you may actually be upset with some other aspect of your physical appearance and feel that you are unattractive.”
According to www.dreammoods.com
“One theory is that dreams about your teeth reflect your anxiety about your appearance and how others perceive you.”
“These dreams may stem from a fear of your sexual impotence or the consequences of getting old.”
“Another rationalization for these falling teeth dream may be rooted in your fear of being embarrassed or making a fool of yourself in some specific situation.”
“Teeth are used to bite, tear, chew and gnaw. In this regard, teeth represent power. And the loss of teeth in your dream may be from a sense of powerlessness… This dream is an indication that you need to be more assertive and believe in the value of your own opinion.”
“A scriptural interpretation for bad or falling teeth indicate that you are putting your faith, trust, and beliefs in what man thinks rather than in the word of God. The bible says that God speaks once, yea twice in a dream or a vision in order to hide pride from us, to keep us back from the pit, to open our ears (spiritually) and to instruct and correct us.”
“In the Greek culture, when you dream about loose, rotten, or missing teeth, it indicates that a family member or close friend is very sick or even near death.”
“According to the Chinese, there is a saying that your teeth will fall out if your are telling lies.”
“It has also been said that if you dream of your teeth falling out, then it symbolizes money. This is based on the old tooth fairy story. If you lose a tooth and leave it under the pillow, a tooth fairy would bring you money.”
At this point I feel like I’m about to lose the will to live – according to these sites my dream means:
- I’m a horrible gossipy, nasty, insensitive horror
- I’m vain
- I’m worried about getting old (a different kind of vain?)
- I’m powerless and need to be more assertive
- I’m godless
- Someone’s going to die
- I’m a liar
- I’m going to win the lottery!
Hmmm – well I’m going to choose to believe the lottery win. Everything else is all nasty and negative.
Maybe’s I’ll just make an appointment to see the dentist – might just stop then huh?
Share you dreams here – and I’ll interpret them for you. I have no skills in this whatsoever, but I promise I will make them all mean something lovely.
