Beat the January Blues

Sometimes January is just lame.

It’s cold (well here in the UK it’s cold). There’s not a whole lot to look forward to - Christmas and NYE have been and gone. You’ve no pennies.

Well, as my Dad would say ‘Put your face straight’, and instead peruse the following list of blues beating stuff to do in January:

  1. Watch all those DVDs you got for Christmas.
  2. It’s a great time to sort out your clutter - and feel positively saintly for doing so. Take anything you no longer need to a charity shop.
  3. Wrap up (woolies, scarves and mittens are all essential) and go for a long walk with your friends - exercise AND free therapy. The gym will be really full of newbies and their new years resolutions anyways. Plus, you can finish up your walk at someone’s house and then drink hot chocolate.
  4. It’s a great time of year to drink hot chocolate -regardless of whether or not you’ve been for a walk.
  5. Have a nice hot bath and use up the Christmas smellies that everyone’s bought you
  6. In London (sorry for the London focus, but hey - it’s all I know) the are tons museums and art galleries which you can visit for free! I want to go to - The Natural History MuseumThe Science Museum; The V&A & The British Museum
  7. Got some spare time? Give a little something back and volunteer for a local charity? In the UK visit Timebank for volunteering opportunities
  8. Read some of those books which have been gathering dust
  9. It’s Chinese New Year! There’s tons of free stuff going on in London (and indeed elsewhere too I’m sure)
  10. Watch Dancing on Ice! Woo hoo! It’s back (this makes me so happy it’s not even funny) - I’ll be watching every Saturday.

Feel free to ridicule me in the comments…
