T Minus 144 Hours (or thereabouts)

I have a very lovely friend called Jules. We’ve known each other for around 7 years now.

She’s newly single. I too am single.

Therefore within the next 6 days, I’ll meet someone.

It’s always the way - we’re never both single for more than 5 or 6 days. One of us always jumps the singleton ship and sails off into smug coupledom.

So how do I know it’ll be me? It’s just the way it works.

I met Jules in March of 2001.

I’d been living with this man who I thought was the centre of my world, unhappily he was busy dipping his wick in Kate (hmm she really was a great friend - can’t think why we lost touch).

So newly single, I meet Jules - also single.

It was going to be brilliant. We were going to go out (a lot). Flirt with entirely unsuitable boys. Misbehave. You get the picture.

Well Jules had other ideas.

6 days later she meets Andy. Cue smug coupledom for her… and continued single status for me.

I’d love to tell you I was happy for her. But I wasn’t. Instead I cursed the pair of them. The curse was a non-starter - they stayed together for years :)

Since then, we’ve never both been single at the same time for more than 6 days.

So this is why I *know* in T miuns 144 hours, I will be seeing someone…

I just hope it’s not Santa…

<insert crap ’Santa only comes once a year’ type joke here>
